Jaya Ahsan has won the National Award for best female lead actor 2018. Meanwhile, her Kolkata film, ‘Kantha’, is being released in Bangladesh today under the SAFTA agreement. Jaya  Ahsan spoke to Bangladesh Post about cinema and other topics. Written by A Mizan.

Here you talk about using the esophagus. How is this possible?

That was a lot of work for me. I had to participate in a workshop for that. I had to do the workshop because I had to speak here using my esophagus. Talking using the esophagus when I can speak, it was a rough thing. That’s why I have had to talk to different cancer patients, and had to talk to them. I had to play a character which matched both the doctor and psychiatrist in the movie. Here, I have to give a lot of information. I had to know everything that anyone with Larynx cancer has to know because of the character.

You are bringing a film in which you acted from the other side to this country. In that case, what is your expectation for Bangladesh’s audience about the film?

The market for Bengali films is growing. In exchange for this film, another movie starring me, ‘Khacha’, is going there. In fact, the quality of films that go there through exchange is not good. In that case, the ‘Khacha’ is much more standard in terms of art. Film is very important when it comes to the culture of a country. If something beautiful from our country goes there, then the image and culture of our country and the mindset of the people of our country becomes greater. That is why it is a pleasure for me to release ‘Khacha’ in that country. It is really good news for me to have a good picture going in that country in exchange for ‘Kantha’.

What is special about ‘Kantha’, for which the viewers will see the film?

In fact, it is about fighting people, telling stories of people coming back. The story of the film will inspire people. This is why I repeatedly say to those who are suffering from depression, to those whose backs are against the wall, you need to see this film. Life is so beautiful ‘Kantha’ is a picture of the vitality of life. If you all suffer, go and see the film. I’m sure the film will please all types of viewers.

What is your expectation?

I expect people to see it. Not all my films can be seen in Bangladesh. The films which are important are mainly in West Bengal. All my films are not released in Bangladesh and are not available on YouTube so I would tell everyone to have go watch the movie, it is a good one. All of you will like it.

They way you are  campaigning in this country with ‘Kantha’. Will you do the same so much in India with ‘Khacha’?

This can be said by Impress Telefilm as to when they intend to release ‘Khacha’ in that country. When they will tell me, of course, I will take part in the campaign. Every film is like my child. ‘Khacha’ is a film close to me. At the time of the release of ‘Khacha’, I must participate in the campaign well. Already, people in Kolkata are interested about ‘Khacha’s’ release.

You won the National Award for best acting. How would you share your feelings?

I am overjoyed to receive such a prestigious award. I cannot put in words about how happy I am.
