Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has revealed that Ziaur Rahman had conspired and killed 1,156 people in 1977 in the name of containing rebellion.
He said Zia was also involved in the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders and many freedom fighters for which he will be tried posthumously.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a rally organised by ‘Mayer Kanna’, a platform of the families of the victims of 1977 court martial, at Cumilla Town Hall Ground marking International Human Rights Day on Saturday.
He said, “Ziaur Rahman killed Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family on August 15, 1975. He had also killed four national leaders. Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman attempted to assassinate Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina on 21 August 2004. These murderers will get punishment in the country. The posthumous trial of murderer Ziaur Rahman will be held in this Bengal one day.”
“There is no grave of Zia next to the Parliament building. Who knows whose grave is there? I challenged the BNP in the national parliament and said that Zia’s grave is not there. It will also be removed from the SangsadBhaban area soon,” he added.
While talking about December 10, the minister said, “Khaleda Zia and her son who had embezzled orphans’ money said that they will take over the country today (December 10), where are they today? We know based on whom they are saying so. But there is no chance for them to come to power in this country.”
The minister also said, “No one dies starving in the country now. The country is a role model for development today. To those who dream of usurping power with the help of foreign masters, I say your daydreaming will remain just daydreaming. We, the supporters of the liberation war, will not sit at home.”
