Dec 1 celebrated as Freedom Fighters’ Day

Different political parties and socio-cultural organisations celebrated the first day of the month of victory through various programmes on Thursday.

As part of the programmes they brought out processions, held rallies and organised various cultural functions. Besides, the Jatiya Somajtantrik Dal (JSD), Sector Commanders’ Forum, the National Committee for the Celebration of the ‘Freedom Fighters Day, Muktijoddha Sangam Parishad, Muktijoddha Oikya Jote and several other organizations on Thursday celebrated the ‘Freedom Fighters Day’.

On the occasion, those organisations paid tributes to the martyrs and freedom fighters by placing floral floral wreaths at the Shikha Chirantan located at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

Later, lawmaker Shajahan Khan, President of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Liberation War, administered the oath to the freedom fighters and the mass people present there. 

Besides, they also paid the highest tributes to the martyrs at Mirpur martyrs’ Graveyard in the morning. 

Meanwhile, welcoming the month of victory, the University of Dhaka brought out a colourful procession on the campus. The procession was inaugurated by DU VC Dr Md. Akhteruzzaman.  The procession paraded the campus and ended at the Shadhinota Chattar at Suhrawardy Udyan.

VC paid humble respect to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the great liberation war. 

Moreover, on this day in 1971, the freedom fighters along with allied forces bravely liberated Thakurgaon town after liberating Panchagarh town on November 29 from the clutches of the Pakistan occupation forces.
