Police launch block raids

Police have started block raids in different places of the capital in order to capture the hiding convicted militants and to ensure safe celebrations of the Great Victory Day, Christmas and Thirty First Night.

Operations are underway in several areas of Gulshan, Tejgaon and Motijheel divisions. In addition to the ongoing operation, the chiefs of all police units and superintendents of police of districts were ordered to conduct a special operation from December 1-15. 

Meanwhile, in a letter sent by the DMP Commissioner mentioned that block raids and search operations should be conducted in all residential hotels, messes and slum areas in the Dhaka metropolitan area with a special plan.Yard meetings during special operations should be expedited.

It is also mentioned in the letter, everyone should be made aware of militancy and the threat of militancy in different areas through courtyard meetings. People should be involved in police activities. All are requested to work sincerely and make the special operation successful so that no militant group can carry out subversive activities in Dhaka city. 

It is also said that besides other places, effective operations should be conducted in places where criminals may hide, including residential hotels, messes, hostels, various institutions, community centers. Militants, terrorists, drug addicts and traders, illegal weapons holders, warranted accused should be arrested, drugs and illegal weapons should also be recovered in the operation. 

DMP Media and Public Relations Department Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Farooq Hossain said at his office of DMP Media Center on Sunday (December 4) the operation conducted in residential hotels and various areas of the capital on Saturday (December 3) is our is a part of our routine work. Hundreds of people have been arrested in the operation. There is concrete evidence against them. Besides, the police have been instructed to be cautious so that no one is subjected to unnecessary harassment.

DC Farooq Hossain also said, raid will not be conducted on any political purpose, only those against whom specific information of criminal activities are available have been arrested. Such operations of the police will continue. 

DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) AKM Hafiz Akhter said, "Block raids have been started in various areas of the capital from Dec 3 night under the direction of the police headquarters. Operation started in Gulshan after 8 pm. 

Apart from this, block raids are also going on in Tejgaon area. A residential hotel called North City in Banani of the capital has been surrounded by the police on suspicion of extremists’ presence inside. Banani police station surrounded this hotel at around 9 pm on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, on Saturday night, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gulshan Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Md Abdul Ahad told reporters that the police have set up check posts on various roads of Gulshan and Banani as part of the raid. Block raids have been conducted in Gulshan and Banani areas to capture the criminals. Operations are underway in and around some hotels and messes. 

OC NooreAzam Mia told reporters, “We had specific information that the extremists who had escaped from the court and their followers are in the area. Based on this information, we are conducting an operation in the Kakali area of Banani in the capital.” In response to a question, OC NurAzam Mia said, "Our operation is continuing”.
