In a message Saturday, the Prime Minister wished members of 38th BCS (Police) cadre who have successfully completed their training from Bangladesh Police Academy, Sarda, a safe and successful professional life.

Recalling the glorious role of Bangladesh Police, the Prime Minister said members of police had made a glorious sacrifice and played heroic role during the Liberation War. They built first armed resistance on the black night of March 25, 1971 at the call of the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she added.

In a democratic society a skilled police force is essential for establishing rule of law, she said, adding that after assuming power, the government took all-out measures, including increasing the members of police, formation of new units, development of infrastructure and other logistic facilities to build a developed and modern police force.

She said efforts are on to build police as a time-befitting, skilled, people-friendly force through setting up welfare trust, developing their residential and healthcare facilities. Besides, the government has formed several units and ranges, including  Industrial Police, Tourist Police, Police Bureau of Investigation, Anti Terrorism-Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit, Metropolitan Unit, Cyber Police Centre and National Emergency Service unit 999, she added.

The premier said the government has also introduced service desk for women, children, senior citizens and people with special needs.

The role of police in curbing militancy, terrorism, smuggling and elimination of drug abuse has brightened the image of Bangladesh in global arena, she said, adding that the brave members of police are playing appreciable role in the peacekeeping operation of the United Nations and they also played a very crucial role in servicing the humanity in facing Covid-19.

The Prime Minister hoped that the members of police would continue to play a leading role in building a smart golden Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
