Over 200 migratory birds get new lease of life

Sujanagar police on Monday rescued a total of 210 migratory birds from poachers and hunters at Gajnar Beel area.  3 hunters were arrested from the scene, police said.

Sujanagar Police Station OC Mizanur Rahman said that acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided Ganjar Beel area. During the raid, police found several traps and over 200 native and migratory birds. They also arrested 3 hunters with the birds from the scene.

Later, when they were produced in the mobile court, the court judge fined them Tk 1,000 each, said Minhazul Islam, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate. Pabna Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mahibul Islam Khan, BPM, released the rescued birds at the police station premises.

SP Mahibul Islam said, "If anyone tries to upset the balance of nature, which is a great resource of birds, legal action will be taken against them." 

Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman, Veterinary Surgeon of the Upazila Animal Resources Office Dr. Md. Abdul Latif, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman, OC (Investigation) Abdul Quddus and General Secretary of Sujanagar Press Club MA Alim Ripon were present.
