One held over rape attempt charge

Action taken following 999 call

Police on Saturday night detained a man for allegedly attempting to rape a girl child aged about 10 years, by conducting a drive at Jinjira area under Birulia union in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital.

“We received an allegation through a call from national emergency number 999, and later detained the accused”, Sub Inspector Abdul Kuddus, In-Charge of Birulia police outpost told The Bangladesh Post.

The detainee was identified as Minu Shikder, 40, son of Azgor Shikder, from Aithor area under Birulia union of Savar. Police sources said the child's mother is an expatriate and came back to the country recently. On Saturday, the accused allegedly entered the victim's house when the child was alone inside the house, and attempted to rape her. 

Later, hearing the child's screams, locals came forward and detained the man, as well as placed a verbal allegation through 999. Later police rushed to the spot following the allegation and detained the accused.

Momenul Islam, Inspector of Savar model police station said, the accused produced before a Dhaka court on Sunday after a case was filed by the victim's family in this regard, besides the victim child was sent to One Stop Crisis Center of Dhaka medical college hospital for health check up.
