Last tributes paid to legendary singer Subir Nandi

Subir Nandi, country’s one of the golden voices, was cremated in the capital Dhaka’s Sabujbagh cremation ground on Wednesday. The legendary singer and composer Subir Nandi died from multiple organs failure following a heart attack at a hospital in Singapore on early Tuesday. His body was flown to capital Dhaka on Wednesday morning.

Apart from relatives, singers, cine actors, artistes, painters, different socio-cultural organisations and people from all walks of life took part in the funeral. Bereaved relatives and friends were seen weeping while some fainted. Earlier, his body was taken to his Green Road residence from the airport. From his residence, his body was taken to Dhakeshwari Temple.Later Subir’s body was kept at the Central Shaheed Minar for the people to pay their last respects from 11:00am to noon. 

His body was also taken to FDC, Channel I office, and Ramkrishna Mission to pay last tributes.Information Minister Hasan Mahmud, Minister of Housing and Public Works S M Rezaul Karim, Awami League Acting Secretary General Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Coordinator of National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Samanta Lal Sen, cultural personality Ramendu Majumdar and Nasir Uddin Yusuf, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Ghulam Quddus, tis general secretary Hasan Arif, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Muhammad Samad, Dr Arup Ratan Chowdhury, lyricist Rafiquzzaman, filmmaker and lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar, Shahidullah Faraizi, Kabir Bakul; musicians Rathindranath Roy, Khurshid Alam, Timir Nandi, Fakir Alamgir, Kumar Biswajit, Andrew Kishore, Ravi Chowdhury, Shuvra Dev, Nakib Khan, Fouad Naser Babu, Badsha Bulbul, SD Rubel; singers Nishita Barua, Kishore, Mohin, Sabbir and Rashed, among others, were also present at the Central Shaheed Minar to pay him the last tribute.

Director Association President Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, General Secretary Bodiul AlamK hokon, Bangladesh Artist Association General Secretary Jayed Khan, prominent actor Alamgir, Omar Suny, Joy Chowdhury, Aruna Bishwas and Danny Sidac also paid tributes with flower wreaths, when he was taken to the FDC at 12:50pm.

During the period, many of his relatives, friends and fan were seen to break down in tears and reciting memories over the singer. Relatives and family members including popular singer Bishwajit Roy were present at Shree-Shree Bordeshwari Maha Shamshan, when his funeral was executed there at around 3:30pm.

Subir’s family sources said, he had been suffering from kidney disease for long. This is why, he had been taking dialysis on regular basis. He however, fell sick three times in the last 22 days being attacked by cardiac arrest. The legendary singer was admitted to CMHon April 14, after he fell sick while returning to home from a relative’s home at Sylhet. At one state, he was taken to Singapore on April 30 following a directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 16 days after got admitted at CMH.
