Under the initiatives of Shariatpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mondip Ghorai, the place which was once a dump of garbages, has been turned into a free library with books written in Bangla scripts only. The wall of the library has been decorated ornamentally where various Bangla books have been kept on a shelf. Any one can borrow any book from the library and return it after reading. No service charge and even no register is needed for the borrowers of the books.
According to sources, the front side of the resident of Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Shariatpur was filled with heaps of rubbish. The UNO has removed the rubbish and protected the house by building a wall there. By setting a shelf with the wall, he has also set up a library where Bangla language books of various writers have been collected. The Library has been set up on the occasion of the great month of Language Movement on February-21 to make people of Shariatpur book-lovers. Such a library is the first in the district.
Some students who came to visit the library informed, they were very glad to receive the books. They said, they have never heard of such a free-library anywhere. They further added, due to various formalities in other libraries including the membership fees and cards, they seldom visit those libraries. Now, this library being hassle free and having no bar to draw books and deposit it, people will be able to read and carry books from here as will.
Motivation Presenter Solaiman Sukhon informed, our surroundings should be decorated with books. They youngmen should made books their daily companions. Upazila Nirbahi Officer has established a relation with local people with this library. The heap of garbage has now turned to a prized library- the theme is worth mentioning, he added.
Shariatpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Monodip Ghorai informed, the step will develop relation between people and the upazila administration. In this great month of Language, people would be able to learn the Bangla language anew. The library has been established to make the people of Shariatpur book oriented.
Parvez Hasan, Deputy Commissioner of Shariatpur informed, the exceptional open library has been set up by holding the conscience of the Ekush. With this new library, a new dimension of Ekush has been added to Shariatpur.
