The High Court has rejected a writ petition that challenged the legitimacy of the membership of the parliament of Tangail-4 (Kalihati) MP Hasan Imam Khan Sohail Hazari.

The High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman rejected the writ petition on Wednesday (November 17). Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta confirmed the matter.

Local Awami League leader and resident of Tangail Md Mokhlesur Rahman filed the writ petition for hiding educational information in the affidavit. Advocate Md Borhan Khan filed the writ petition with the High Court on Tuesday on behalf of Mokhlesur Rahman.

It was known that Mokhlesur Rahman wrote a letter to the Speaker on July 25 stating that there were discrepancies in the educational qualifications of MP Hasan Imam Khan in his affidavit. He requested that the matter be referred to the Election Commission (EC) for resolution.

However, since that was not the case, Mokhlesur Rahman filed the writ petition with the High Court disposing of the letter. In the writ petition, Hasan Iman Khan had been asked to resign from the post of Member of Parliament for giving false information in the election affidavit.

It may be mentioned that former minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui was the MP from Tangail-4 (Kalihati) constituency.

Hasan Imam Khan was elected MP from the seat in the by-election in 2017 after Abdul Latif Siddiqui was expelled from the party.

Hasan Imam Khan became MP for the second time after getting party nomination in the 11th Parliament election held on December 30 in 2018.
