Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed on Wednesday said the government is implementing 54 programmes for the well-being of people.
"We are implementing various effective programmes to support the vulnerable people including old-age group through providing monthly allowances," he told a seminar at media centre of Bangladesh Secretariat here, an official release said.
Highlighting the progress and activities of social welfare ministry, Nuruzzaman said the government has increased 12 times the budgetary allocation against 54 programmes in the past 15 years.
"In the fiscal year of 2008-09, he said, annual budget of the Social Welfare Ministry was Taka 1013 crore 31 lakh 54 thousand while the budgetary allocation rose to Taka 12,216 crore 84 lakh," he said.
