Five policemen have been temporarily suspended in connection with the abducting of two death row militants of the banned militant organization Ansar Al Islam (Ansarullah Bangla Team) from a crowded court in Old Dhaka.

These militants were brought to the court from the jail in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act of Mohammadpur police station without any extra police protection.

Leaders of banned militant organization Ansar Al Islam, Mainul HasanShamim, and Abu Siddique Sohail were abducted by their cohorts from a crowded court in Old Dhaka on Sunday. Due to negligence of work, five policemen have been suspended in connection with the abduction.

Those who have been suspended are - CMM Jail Court Inspector Matiur Rahman, Jail In-Charge SI Nahidur Rahman, Police ATSI Mohiuddin, Constable SharifulHasan and Constable Abdus Sattar.

Jasim Uddin, Deputy Police Commissioner of the Prosecution Department of DMP, gave this information to the media on Monday (November 21) at noon.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (DB) Harun-or-Rashid said in a press conference at DMP Media Center that those involved in the incident of abducting militants are under surveillance. All will be brought under the law.

He also said, they will be arrested at any time. The police chief has already issued a red alert to prevent the accused from escaping. He also said that precautions are being taken in bringing and taking militants. They were abducted by 'spraying' the police while being taken back to jail after the Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal hearing. Both Shamim and Siddique are death row convicts in the case of the murder of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan. Abu Siddique Sohail has also been sentenced to death in the murder case of writer Abhijit Roy.

According to a source, the militants planned to attack the police and kidnap the accused under the orders of the dismissed army Major Syed Ziaul Haque, the top leader of Ansar Al Islam. Accordingly, 5/6 unidentified members took position in two motorcycles. Besides, another 10/12 members of Ansar Al Islam were stationed in front of the main gate of the court. They then snatched away the accused from the police. One of the accused hit a constable in the face with an iron cutter when the on-duty police man intervened.

However, the militants managed to snatch away Mainul HasanShamim alias Samir alias Imran and Abu Siddique Sohail alias Shakib alias Sajid alias Shahab but failed to take Arafat and Sabur.

Court Inspector Julhas of Kotwali police station filed a case of abduction of two militants. 7-8 more people are named as unknown accused in the case.

The police appealed to remand the accused for 10 days for proper investigation of the case at Kotwali police station. After the hearing, the judge granted remand for 10 days each. The remanded accused are Shahin Alam, Shah Alam, BM Mojibur Rahman, Sumon Hossain Patwari, Khairul Islam, Mozammel Hossain, Arafat Rahman, Sheikh Abdullah, AbdusSabur and Rashidunnabi.

Jasim Uddin, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Prosecution Department of DMP, confirmed the matter on Monday (November 21).

The Dhaka Police Commissioner formed a five-member investigation committee in this incident. The police have declared a reward of 10 lakh taka to help arrest each of the two fugitive militants. A 'Red Alert' has been issued across the country.
