Deplorable road condition makes Haor people life difficult

Sufferings of Haor people of Azmiriganj Upazila under Habiganj district has been increased due to dilapidated condition of the roads. 

Several spots of the 26-kilometre long Azmiriganj Bazaar to Marculi under Baniachang upazila road have been devoured by the river resulting in a suspension of movement of vehicles through the road.

According to an eye-witness account, at least six places of the road from Badalpur to Paharpur have been damaged badly. Through those damaged parts, strong current of the river and the haor flows. Local people have made temporary bamboo-culvert over the breached parts of the road. Local people also collect tolls from the passerby crossing through the bamboo-culvert. No other vehicles except for the motor-bikes can cross through the culvert.  

Local people complained, no protection wall or embankment has been erected along the Kushiara river that is why the road has been breached in several places due to strong current of river-water. As a result, sufferings of the people did not wane only for the want of a protection wall.

It is learnt, several lakh people of, Kishorganj, Sunamganj districts and Azmiriganj, Salla, Baniachang and Itna upazila used the road for the purpose of communication. Sufferings of the people of those areas knew no bound due to suspension of the movement of vehicles through the road. 

Waris Mia, a farmer of Pirilpur village under Azmiriganj informed, the people of Azmiriganj suffered a lot due to the absence of any road once upon a time. Now, the road has been constructed and people were extremely happy but due to lack of proper maintenance and repair, many parts of the
