Rapid Action Battalion on Thursday night arrested 5 with 4.30 lakh Yaba tablets from Maheshkhali Channel area in Cox’s Bazar district. The trawler which was being used to smuggle Yaba was also seized.
Commander of RAB-15 Cox’s Bazar battalion Wing Commander Azim Ahmed stated that members of RAB-15 on Thursday night conducted the raid.
The arrestees are Rashid Ullah (42), Amanat Karim (38), Nasir Uddin (36), Saiful Islam (20) and Sayedur Rahman, RAB officials said.
Wing Commander Azim Uddin said, acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB members raided Maheshkhali Channel area on Thursday night. During the raid, RAB spotted a suspicious trawler. Sensing the presence of law-enforcement personnel, the smugglers tried to flee from the spot. RAB then captured the trawler after chasing them.
During the search, 4.3 lakh Yaba tablets were found from the fishing trawler. 5 were arrested from the trawler. The boat was also seized.
