After completing the 25-day of legal litigation, family members of deceased Laking Me Chakma, a girl of Chakma community, received her dead-body from the morgue of the hospital but they are worried over burying it at her own village.
Relatives of Laking Me Chakma informed her dead body will not be carried out to her own village Shilkhali Chakmapara under Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar because they are worried if she is buried there, the rival group members would steal and take away the dead body by excavating the grave.
That is why the dead body of Laking Me will be carried to Ramu and buried there instead of cremating it, informed mother and relatives of Laking Me in front of the hospital morgue on Monday. Earlier, the dead body was formally handed over to Lala Aung Chakma, father of Laking Me. The dead body was then carried to Ramu through a Mortuary van.
Among others, the Investigation Officer of the case, SI of RAB-15 Anjan Chowdhury, Resident Medical Officer of Sadar Hospital Dr. Shahin Abdur Rahman Chowdhury were present during handing over of the dead body to the family members.
According to sources, in a case filed in the court on January 13, 2020, Lala Aung Chakma, father of Laking Me Chakma, complained that Ataullah of Takaf had abducted his minor daughter, a class VII student. During the investigation of the case on December-15, he came to learn that her daughter was dead and her dead body was lying in the morgue of the hospital.
He was entangled in further legal litigation while the abductor of the case Ataullah claimed himself as her husband saying that Laking Me was converted to Islam and married him. So, as a husband, he claimed to take away the dead body of his wife Laking Me to bury it according to Islamic rites. The dispute was raised to the court and the court directed the RAB to take steps to bury the dead body after being confirmed about the religious identity of the deceased after investigation.
After investigation, Investigation Officer of RAB identified Laking Me Chakma as a 'child' and according to the court order, the dead body of Laking Me was handed over to her family members.
According to local people, young man Ataullah abducted minor girl Laking Me of an ethnic minority group and married her after converting her to Islam. She was renamed Halimatul Sadia. The family members of Laking Me went to the police station to lodge a complaint but the police after accepting the complaint conducted an investigation and the report of the investigation mentioned Laking Me herself left the family and marry Ataullah, as a result, her father filed a case with the court to get the dead body of his daughter for her funeral. However, at last, he was the winner and expressed his gratitude to the local administration and the media.
Lala Aung Chakma, father of Laking Me informed, on Januray-5,2020, his daughter was abducted while he was not in his house at Shilkhali Chakmapara of Teknaf. He went to catch fish in the sea. His daughter was a student of class VII of local Shamlapur High School. After returning home, he could learn that some youngmen including Ataullah, Yeasin, Isha and Abuya of Baharchhara Mathabhanga area under Teknaf boarded his daughter on an auto-rickshaw and took her to some unknown destination. According to the Birth Certificate, Laking Me was then 14 year 10 months old. He immediately informed the incident to local UP Member Mohammad Hafez but he did not take any action in this connection.
Lala Aung Chakma then went to Teknaf Model police station to file a case but the then Officer-in-charge Pradip Kumar Das ( sacked in the murder case of retired Major Sinha) did not register it as a case. As a result, he filed the case with the Women and Child Repression Repeal Tribunal in Cox's Bazar on January-27. The court then directed the Police Bureau of Investigation of Cox's Bazar to investigate into the case.
PBI report submitted to the court on August-9 said, the authenticity of the complaint of the abduction of Laking Me Chakama could not be found. But, her father claimed at least five local witnesses said about the abduction of her daughter. But, PBI Inspector and Investigation Officer of the case Kashinu Marma said, all the witnesses claimed by Lala Aung are his relatives. He also talked with the local eye-witness persons who claimed that Laking Me herself went away with those youngmen.
After 11-month of the incident, Lala Aung Chakma came to learn that the dead body of his daughter is lying at the morgue and while he went to take her dead body, he came to learn his daughter's 'abductor' Ataullah has applied to take the dead body by claiming her as his wife. At last, after fighting an arduous, lengthy legal battle, Lala Aung Chakma received a verdict in which the court ordered the RAB to take steps for the funeral of the dead body after being confirmed about the religious identity of the deceased.
