Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League filed a case against 175 people over Friday’s clash with Bangladesh Student Rights Council members at a rally held to mark the third death anniversary of Abrar Fahad, who was brutally killed in BUET three years ago.
BCL Shahabag Thana unit Organizing Secretary Md Nazim Uddin filed the case at Shahbagh police station on Friday night. 25 named and 150 unnamed persons were accused in the case. OC Nur Mohammad of Shabag Police Station confirmed it on Saturday.
The accused include 18 members of the Abrar Fahad Remembrance Council, Bangladesh Student Rights Council Vice President Md Tarikul Islam and Joint General Secretary HM Rubel Hossain,he said.
The court sent 24 leaders and activists of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad to jail, said court sources.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam ordered them to be sent to jail on Saturday noon.
The accused, armed with sticks and rods, attacked several people, including Nazim, with the intention of killing them,the case staten said.
Nazim alleged that he waa severely injured above his right eye, adding that some 150 people launched an attack again when he went to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
BCL was accused of attacking Friday’s rally held in memory of Abrar Fahad and injuring 20 people, including 13 Bangladesh Student Rights Council members and a rickshaw puller.
Police personnel more than 20 people, including Bangladesh Student Rights Council’s Dhaka University unit President Akhter Hossain and General Secretary Akram Hossain, when they were at DMCH to get treatment.
