Agriculture needs more attention for smooth raw material supply to industry

Matia Chowdhury says at ICAB seminar

Begum Matia Chowdhury MP on Wednesday said, for more jobs, we need industrialization, but for its raw materials, we have to depend on agriculture. So, we have to give more concentration on agriculture to ensure smooth supply of raw materials to the industry, she said adding, we should understand the live science of agriculture to ensure better production of crops and to keep balance of the sectors.

Begum Matia Chowdhury, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Agriculture, was speaking while she was visiting the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB).

Highlighting the various initiatives of the present government, she said, Bangladesh Awami League always gives emphasis on agriculture. That’s why during the government of AL the farmers live a better life.

ICAB President Md. Shahadat Hossain FCA briefed Matia Chowdhury of ICAB’s activities and the initiatives for development of financial eco-system of the country. He said, ICAB has been working with government specially in regard of VAT and Tax administration. He also placed few recommendations on development of agricultural sector specially railway transportation of agricultural products to erase the middle traders, invention of high breed seeds, and increase of celling of agriculture loans to the farmers. He demanded  for more allocation in the upcoming national budget for development of agriculture sector as the sector contributes 40 percent of total GDP of the country. He also demanded for involvement of CAs in government’s revenue expenditure management.

Among others spoke on the occasion, ICAB chief executive officer (CEO) Shubhashish Bose and Vice President Fouzia Haque FCA.

ICAB Vice President NKA Mobin FCA, Council Members Kamrul Abedin FCA, Sabbir Ahmed FCA, Md. Moniruzzaman FCA, Mohammed Forkan Uddin FCA, MBM Lutful Hadee FCA and Chief Operating Officer Mahbub Ahmed Siddique FCA, among others were present.
