The 14-party alliance led by the ruling Awami League on Wednesday started taking to the streets jointly through launching a week-long programme with a view to checking violence and anti-state activities by BNP and conspirators.

On the beginning day, the ruling party led alliance held a joint rally in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh in the capital city Dhaka Wednesday afternoon protesting against the arson terrorism and anarchy of BNP.

At the rally, the 14-party alliance leaders vowed to fight together against the BNP, Jamaat, militants, fundamentalists and conspirators at home and abroad.

Chaired by alliance convener Amir Hossain Amu, also a member of the AL’s advisory council, the rally was addressed, among others, by Jatiya Somajtantrik Dal (JSD) general secretary Shirin Akhter, Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, Ganotantrik Majdur Party president Zakir Hossain, Gano Azadi League president SK Sikder, Bangladesher Somajtantri Dal (BSD) convener Rezaur Rahman, Ganotantri Party general secretary Shahadat Hossain, Tarikat Federation vice-chairman Tayubul Boshor, Jatiya Party (JP) organising secretary Abul Khayer Siddiqi and AL leader Mrinal Kanti Das.

In his speech, 14-party alliance chief Amir Hossain Amu urged all the people of the country to become active against the anti-state conspiracy hatched by BNP, Jamaat and their allied forces.

“They (BNP and Jamaat), want to stop continuation of democracy and the flow of development. But they will not be successful to snatch the rights of the people of the country”, he said.

Other leaders of the alliance said the BNP had tried to kill Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through launching grenade attacks on August 21 in 2004 and also launched the series bombing countrywide in 2005.

The BNP-Jamaat alliance had also launched arson terrorism countrywide. They burnt hundreds of people alive, sat vehicles, educational institutions and public properties on fire in 2013 and 14.

But, the leaders, said those anti-state forces will now be dealt with strong hands.

The alliance leaders also vowed to keep their ties strong and contest the next national elections together.

Earlier on Monday, all the partners of the 14-party alliance decided to remain active together in the field from Wednesday (August 2) to deal with the movement of the BNP and its allies.

The 14-party alliance earlier on July 19 held a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, at her official residence Ganabhaban.

At the meeting, all the partners of the alliance had promised to support the AL government. The alliance also decided to go to the polls as a unit.

According to sources, the 14-party alliance, which has been together for nearly three decades, has strengthened its ties further as BNP-Jamaat alliance has launched anarchy to oust the present government and destroy the democratic process.

The BNP, Jamaat and their allied forces are also trying to foil the upcoming 12th National Parliamentary elections.
