An unidentified person has claimed extortion money over phone to Jashore Zilla Parishad chairman Saifuzzaman Pikul on Sunady midnight.
The Chairman recorded a GD in this connection with Kotowali police station on Monday. The information was confirmed by Inspector (Investigation) of Kotowali Police Station, Sheikh Tasmim Alam.
Police sources informed that an unidentified man made a phone call to Zila Parishad Chairman Saifuzzaman Pikul at around 2am on Sunday night. At that time, the man demanded extortion money from him and gave him death threats if he did not comply. Following the incident he sought the security of life at the police station on Monday through a GD.
Zila Parishad Chairman Saifuzzaman Pikul told reporters that someone demanded Tk 1 lakh as extortion money from him over a phone call. The caller did not identify himself. He was told to take the money to the office in the morning. But then the mobile number was found switched off.
