Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali has announced a zero-tolerance policy to build a safe city free from extortion and drugs.
He made the remarks at a press briefing held on Thursday afternoon at the CMP conference room in Dampara. The commissioner said that special drives will be conducted to curb terrorism, theft, snatching, and juvenile gangs to ensure overall security for city residents.
He also warned that no police member would be spared if found involved in any criminal activity.
Highlighting recent crime patterns, he noted that organized snatchers often use CNG auto-rickshaws or motorcycles to quickly carry out crimes and flee with valuable belongings. Police will maintain strict vigilance to prevent such incidents.
To ease traffic congestion, the traffic division will be further modernized. Additionally, key crime-prone hotspots across the city will be brought under CCTV surveillance. Work has already begun on creating a new mapping system for this purpose.
Seeking cooperation from city residents, the commissioner expressed optimism that a safer city can be achieved through joint efforts.

It is known that Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali joined CMP as its 34th Commissioner on April 1. He entered Bangladesh Police through the 18th BCS in 1999. Throughout his career, he has served in CMP, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, RAB, and other key units. He has also successfully served in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Liberia, Haiti, and Mali. Prior to joining CMP, he was serving as DIG (Logistics) at Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
