Zakiria has officially assumed office as the new Secretary of Shipping Ministry.
Prior to this appointment, he served as a Member (Secretary) of the Planning Commission. He is a senior and experienced officer of the BCS (Administration) cadre from the 17th batch.
He was promoted to the post of Secretary on March 30 and joined the Planning Commission as Member (Secretary). Later, on April 12, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification appointing him as Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping.
Throughout his long career, Zakiria has served in several key administrative positions. He began his career as an Assistant Commissioner at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Mymensingh. He later worked as Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Cantonment Executive Officer, Deputy Director (Local Government), and Additional Divisional Commissioner in different capacities.
He also served as Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Science and Technology and as Chairman of the Bangladesh Safe Food Authority.
After taking charge, the new Secretary expressed his commitment to making the ministry’s activities more dynamic, efficient, and people-oriented. He sought the cooperation of all concerned to properly discharge his responsibilities.
Officials expect that his extensive administrative experience and leadership skills will play a significant role in improving the shipping sector, strengthening governance, and enhancing service delivery.
