‘Global Korean Cinema’ conference

Film Researcher and filmmaker Dr Zakir Hossain Raju attended ‘Global Korean Cinema’ conference in Seoul organised to celebrate 100 years of Korean Cinema.

The conference where he was invited as the only speaker from South Asia was held from October 25-27. 

Korean Film Council and Committee for 100 Years of Korean Film are jointly organised the event.

The conference brought together film professors from North America, Europe and Asia to evaluate the first century and the future of Korean cinema in global arena.

Professor Raju joined the panel on ‘Global Korean Cinema with the National, the Transnational and the inter-Asian’ along with the film scholars An Jisoon, University of California Berkeley, USA; Mitsuhiro Yoshimoto, Waseda University, Japan; and Sangjoon Lee, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He presented a paper titled ‘Korean Cinema teaching in a South Asian Classroom’.

A well-known expert of Asian Cinema, Professor Raju developed the unique course ‘KRN 112: Korean Cinema and Society’ (only such course in South Asia) at Independent University, Bangladesh in 2015.
