YouTube is expanding its “Premium Lite” plan to more countries, offering a lower-cost subscription that reduces ads. This plan costs about half of the standard YouTube Premium, which is $22.99 per month.
Ben Schoon wrote this tech report, which was published on 9to5google.com on Wednesday.
Unlike the full Premium service, which includes YouTube Music, offline downloads, and background play, the Premium Lite plan only removes ads. However, it still shows “limited ads” instead of eliminating them entirely.
Currently, in Australia, Premium Lite is priced at $11.99 per month, while a test price of $8.99 is also being considered. Users in Germany can access it for about €5.99 per month.
Google is testing this option in Australia, Germany, and Thailand, but it’s unclear if it will expand further.
YouTube Premium has over 100 million subscribers, even as prices continue to rise.
