Youths to get funds to be entrepreneurs

To develop the trained youth from the Department of Youth De­velopment as entrepreneurs NRBC Bank will provide loan assistance to them. 

In this regard a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Youth Development and NRBC Bank at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on Tuesday. 

Under the agreement, NRBC Bank will provide low interest loans to 50,000 new entrepreneurs. In the presence of State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Zahid Ahsan Russell, Director General of the Department of Youth Development Md. Azharul Islam Khan and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NRBC Bank Golam Aulia signed the agreement on their behalf. Ministry of Youth and Sports Senior Secretary Md. Akhter Hossain and NRBC Bank Chairman SM Parvez Tamal were present on the occasion as special guests. 

State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Zahid Ahsan Russell said, “Today's initiative on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of great independence would undoubtedly be considered as a milestone in empowering women and facilitating overall employment of youth.”  He called upon the youth to take advantage of all the opportunities provided by the government and under public-private partnership and come forward to build a happy, prosperous and developed Bangladesh in the light of the Vision-2041.

Speaking on the occasion, AKM Mofizul Islam, Director of the Department, said that the main driving force of the country is the Youth. 

They do not get loan assistance after taking training from Department of Youth Development. Some are forced to take loans at 10 percent to 15 percent interest. Under this agreement, in order to create employment and self-employment of more youths through NRBC Bank, self-employed and entrepreneurial loan will be given to the youth from 4 percent to a maximum of 9 percent interest rate up to Tk 10 lakh. Preference will be given to women, third gender and people with special needs to be entrepreneurs. 

NRBC Bank Chairman Parvez Tamal said that NRBC Bank has been playing an active role as a development partner of the government since its inception. 

The branches of this bank are gradually expanding in all districts and upazilas. NRBC Bank will play an effective role in developing 50,000 trained youth as entrepreneurs by providing them loan assistance. 

He expressed his determination to work for the empowerment of the youth community from the side of the Department of Youth Development in future.
