Youths getting interested in nurseries in Pabna

Mehedi Hasan, a student completed his BBA from New Model University, Dhaka Dhanmondi No. 32. Although his home is on Shershah Road in Ishwardi, Pabna, he has set up a nursery in the village of Dhulati in Muladuli Union of the upazila. He is benefiting financially from the nursery. Seeing his success, many young people are leaning towards setting up nursery in the district.

About the year 2020, when all the educational institutions in the country are closed due to the Coronavirus epidemic, students had to return home. At this time, Mehedi thought something was needed to be done and he decided to plant a fruit orchard as he had a special interest in trees when he was young. In the light of that decision, today's 'Fruits and Plans Agro', said Mehdi Hasan. At first the garden was started with a few fruit seedlings. Later the demand increased and it was expanded. More activities were undertaken through the naming of ‘Fruits and Plans Agro’.

Activities of 'Fruits and Plan Agro' on three and a half bighas of land in Bedundia village of Dhulti in Muladuli union of the upazila. Mehdi Hasan is the younger of the two brothers. Big brother Sabbir Ahmed is a software engineer. He also gives advice for this orchard. At his suggestion, efforts are being made to modernize Fruits and Plan Agro and spread information technology. There is already a huge response to the sale of fruit saplings online. Most of the seedlings in this garden are sold online.

Hundreds of different fruit saplings lined up at Fruits and Plans Agro at around 8 am on Saturday. These seedlings are being planted by cutting the mouth of big water cans and filling it with soil. The number of foreign mango seedlings in this garden is high. Some small mango saplings are also holding mangoes of different colors. Talking to Mehdi Hasan. He said that in the middle of 2020, one and a half bighas of land was leased and seedlings were planted. In the hope of success in the production of saplings, it was named ‘Fruits and Plans Agro. He said that his 'Fruits and Plans' agro has 150 species of fruit saplings. There are 26 types of mango saplings. We collect these seedlings after bringing them from America, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Brunei and India. After importing these saplings from different companies of the country, we purchase them from Dhaka and Bogura. Mehedi Hasan said that he has seen the light of hope in the first year of making the garden. If one can move forward with the right plan, one will surely succeed. There is a huge demand for mango seedlings in my garden. Orders come over the phone from different areas. Delivery is made accordingly.

Among the high demand are Red Palmer Mango from USA, Red Mango from Taiwan, Unfunch Mango from India, Miyaziki from Japan, Red Ivory, Honeydew, Australia R2T, Doxide from Thailand etc. In addition to mangoes, exotic Egyptian figs, pomegranates from Afghanistan, oranges from China, Maltese from Vietnam, Thai longan that looks like figs, avocado from South Africa that looks like jackfruit, Barboda cherry seedlings are grown in this agro. Apart from this, they spend their time in producing mango, litchi, borai, lemon, grape, and pomegranate and kamaranga fruit seedlings.

Mehdi Hasan is now a successful mixed fruit sapling grower. His seedlings are being sold online in different parts of the country. The demand is increasing day by day. Mehdi Hasan said that saplings are being sold more in online order. Farmers in Barisal, Khulna, Jessore, Kushtia region buy our fruit and plan agro fruit saplings especially mango saplings online. Delivery is sent to the courier service on time after receiving the order and payment. He said that only 70 to 80 thousand rupees worth of saplings are sold online every month. Which is very promising. As a result, the annual sales of its saplings stood at 7 lakh 40 thousand rupees. Hopefully more saplings will be sold this season. He also said that he would expand and modernize Fruits and Plans Agro.

Seeing Mehedi’s success, many young students are gaining interests on setting up nurseries in the area. Many has been visited the nursery of Mehedi and took advised from him on how to start a nursery as an entrepreneur. Mehedi has also inspiring young people in the area to start projects like setting up nursery, selling seedlings of plants that has commercial values.  

Mehdi Hasan's cousin Ashraful Islam, who is in charge of Fruits and Plans Agro all the time, said that he and four other workers work in Fruits and Plans Agro. Every month their salary and other expenses are around 30 thousand rupees. Ashraful Islam also expressed hope that Fruits and Plan Agro would be further expanded in the future due to the hard work, intelligence and skill of Mehdi Hasan.

Mentioning a good initiative, Ishwardi Upazila Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar said that the present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants the educated youth of the country to be involved in agriculture. Our Department of Agriculture is ready to extend overall support for the further expansion of the fruit nursery of hardworking Mehdi Hasan.
