A criminal was beaten to death by angry mob after he reportedly stabbed to death a youth who resisted a rape attempt on his niece at Amirpur village in Sadar upazila on Saturday.
The youth who was stabbed to death was identified as Hasan Ali, 22, son of Hamidul Islam of the area while the criminal killed in lynched-mob attack was identified as Akbar Ali, 40, son of Abul Kashem of Mominpur in sadar upazila of the district. Abu Jihad Mohammad Fakrul Alam Khan, OC of Chuadanga police station said, Akabar Ali entered into the house of Hamidul Islam last mid night, tried to rape a minor girl, Hasan forbade him, at one stage Akabar Ali attacked him with sharp weapon. Hearing scream local rushed at the spot and caught Akbar Ali. Later, they beat him up mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police rescued severely injured Hasan, Hamidul and the girl and took them to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where Hasan succumbed to his injuries at 8 am. Dr Abu Ehsan Md Wahed Raju of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said Hamidul was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital while the girl was sent home after primary treatment.
