A youth was stabbed to death in front of Shishu Park in the capital’s Shahbagh area on Sunday.
The victim was identified as Mobarak, 18, who had been living as a floating resident in the Shahbagh area.
Originally from Habiganj, he was the son of Abdul Monaf and had recently married a girl named Lamia.
The incident occurred around the footbridge near Shishu Park, according to police and relatives.
Mobarak was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead around 6:30pm.
Mobarak’s cousin, Robiul, claimed that a man named Nobi, known for drug dealing in the area, had earlier sold drugs worth Tk 4,000 to Mobarak on credit.
As Mobarak failed to pay the money, Nobi allegedly sent several people, including Raju and Ratul, to collect the dues.
They confronted Mobarak near the footbridge on Sunday afternoon. When he refused to pay, an altercation broke out, during which Raju and Ratul reportedly stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, confirmed the death and said Mobarak’s body had been kept at the morgue for autopsy.
