Gazipur Metropolitan Police arrested a young man named Abu-Bakkar (30) during robbing of Prime Bank with a bomb in the Chandna Chowrasta area of Gazipur city.
On 16 September 2020, at around 11.00 am, an unidentified youth entered the Joydebpur crossroads branch of Prime Bank with a bomb in his bag. At that time, the young man entered the room of the bank manager Md. Farid Ahmed and demanded Rs 20 lakh from the manager. If he did not pay, he threatened to explode the bomb.
The bank manager closed all the gates of the bank through security guards and informed the Basan Metro police station. Police arrested Abu-Bakkar (30) from the bank.
Gazipur Metropolitan Acting Police Commissioner Md Azad Mia told the media that a team of 11 members contacted the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Science (CTTC) to deactivate the bomb considering the safety of the people as Gazipur Chandna Crossroads is the busiest area of the city. The 11-member CTTC team was able to defuse the bomb very efficiently at 04.00 pm. At that time a strict security zone was set up on Tangail road at Jaydevpur crossroads. Traffic was light at the time of the defusing the bomb.
After 4 hours, the bomb disposal unit was able to deactivate the bomb. After deactivating the bomb, the Acting Commissioner of Police further said that the type of bomb that was defused was the Improvised Electronic Device (I, E, D) national.
This bomb had two faces with a combination of three pipes.
