Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a youth with 30,000 Yaba tablets at the Marichya Joint Checkpost under the Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) during a special operation on Friday.
The arrestee, identified as Imran (22), hails from Lengurbeel area of Haldia Palong Union in Ukhiya.
Acting on a tip-off, a special BGB patrol team intercepted a suspicious CNG-run auto-rickshaw at the Marichya Rubber Dam Checkpost around 2pm. Upon interrogation, Imran initially denied carrying drugs.
However, a search of his bag led to the recovery of 30,000 Yaba tablets hidden with special techniques.
Ramu Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said drug abuse is a national crisis and BGB remains steadfast in its commitment to curb cross-border smuggling.
“This operation reflects our zero-tolerance stance.
We are always ready to act in the interest of national security,” he added, confirming that such drives will continue.
