Youth held in woman journalist assault case

Shailkupa thana police in Jhenidah arrested a young man on Saturday noon for his alleged involvement in assaulting a women journalist serving in Shailkupa. The arrested was identified as Ramim Hasan, 25, of Satgachhi village of Shailkupa municipality. In the other hand, the main accused in the case, also a journalist Abdur Rahman Milton went on hiding sensing police drive.

Shailkupa police station officer in charge Bazlur Rahman said they arrested Ramim Hasan from his village home at Satgachhi when a woman journalist Tania Afroz has filed a case against journalist Abdur Rahman Milton and his associate Ramim Hasan on November 5 last year. She was staying at a private hospital and diagnostic center at Kabirpur in the municipal town.

The case was filed under the section of women and children repression act. Since then the accused duo was hiding to avoid arrest by the law enforcers. Petitioner Tania Afroz is a staff correspondent of the Bengali daily Shyambazer.

Tania Afroz in a press conference at Jhenidah press club had demanded immediate arrest of the attackers and a number of human chains were formed at different places to bring the two miscreants in book. The drive was conducted by sub inspector Emdad Hossain. Police have been continuing drives to nab another accused Abdur Rahman Milton, police station officer in charge said.
