Police arrested a college student named Chitta Ranjan Roy, 21, for allegedly slandering Islam and prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM) on Facebook in Chiribandar. The arrested Chitta Ranjan is reported to be the son of Prabas Chandra Roy of the village of Jot Satnaala (Mistrypara).
The incident took place on last Wednesday afternoon in the Satnalla Union area of Chiribandar in the district. Chiribandar Police Station Source said that he recently posted a status on social media, slandering Islam and Mahanabi (SM) that went viral on social media, causing widespread outrage among Facebook users across the upazila and the country.
After receiving the news, several police officers led by Dinajpur Additional Police Super (Sadar Circle) Sujan Sarkar and OC Subrata Kumar Sarkar of Chiribandar Police Station rushed to the scene. Chitta Ranjan Roy was arrested from his grandfather's house in Dhanesapara. The OC confirmed the incident in the evening, saying that a case was filled against him under Digital Security Act-2018 with Chirbandar Police Station.
