A 35-year-old man, Md. Mizanur Rahman, has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and fined Tk 500 for possession and use of yaba tablets by a mobile court in Mahipur.

On Thursday, police conducted a raid near Raja Filling Station on the Dhaka–Kuakata highway and found 10 yaba tablets and a mobile phone in Mizanur’s possession. The operation, based on a tip-off, was supported by members of the army.

The mobile court, led by Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Kausar Hamid, sentenced him under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 (Sections 9(1)(g) and 36, Schedule-16). The accused is a resident of Ward-1, Kolapara Municipality, and son of Anisur Rahman.

Magistrate Kausar Hamid said, “Drugs are a severe threat to society and future generations. The administration will continue operations against narcotics.”
Mahipur OC Mahmud Hasan added, “Anti-drug activities have been intensified, and we cooperated with the mobile court to ensure legal action.”

The joint operation by the administration, army, and police has reassured the local community.
