A tribunal in Chuadanga has sentenced a young man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 in a rape case. The verdict was delivered on Sunday afternoon by Judge Syed Habibul Islam of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, in the presence of the accused.

The convicted, Khairul Islam (24), is the son of Sirajul Islam from Buzrukgari Madrasa Para in Chuadanga municipality.

According to case details, on 8 September 2024, the accused lured the complainant’s daughter, a seventh-grade student, from her home. He forced her into an auto-rickshaw from Chuadanga Women’s College Road and later, around 1 am the following night, took her to a mustard and mango orchard in the Sumirdia area. There, he raped her against her will, gagging her mouth when she screamed and threatening her with intimidation.

During the search, the girl was later found in a field behind a madrasa and brought home. Her father subsequently filed a case at Chuadanga Sadar Police Station.

Sub-Inspector Jagadish Chandra Basu investigated and submitted a charge sheet on 20 November 2024. Before that, Khairul gave a confessional statement under Section 164 before the Judicial Magistrate’s Court.
