A young man was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to burgle a shop in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the Jadimura area of Ward No. 2, Rajapalong Union. The deceased, identified as Mohammad Riduan (22), was the son of Farid Alam from Hajirpara village in the same union.
According to Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Arif Hossain, Riduan tried to enter a local shop owned by Manzur Alam by cutting through the tin wall.
During the break-in attempt, he came into contact with live electrical wires and died on the spot.
Locals discovered the body early Tuesday morning, with half of it inside the shop and the other half outside.
“Initial findings suggest he died from electrocution during an attempted theft, though further investigation is underway,” said OC Hossain.
The body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
