A 28-year-old man named Habibur Rahman Habib reportedly took his own life by hanging in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur.

The incident occurred early Sunday in Batikamaripurbapara village under Aona Union. Habib was the son of Makhan Torofdar from Daulatpur village in the same union. Local residents claimed he had recently become addicted to drugs.

Habib’s father said his son worked as an electrical engineer on a ship but had been at home for the past three to four months. He was expected to return to work this week. On Saturday night (11 October), he had dinner and went to sleep in his room. At dawn, noticing the door open and finding him missing, the family later learnt from Habib’s aunt, Lucky Begum, that he had been found hanging with a scarf from the veranda of her home in the neighbouring village. When they arrived, they found him still hanging, wearing surgical gloves on both hands.

Lucky Begum, who had returned home from Dhaka the previous evening, said she was unaware of when Habib had arrived or why he had chosen her house to end his life.

Tarakandi Police Investigation Centre in-charge Md Iqbal Hossain confirmed that police recovered the body and will file an unnatural death case. The body is being prepared for post-mortem.
