A young man named Dipu Roy (28) has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) police in Thakurgaon for allegedly making derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad.
The arrest was made early Friday morning in Panchagarh by a joint team from Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station and the district's DB unit, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sarwar Alam Khan.
Dipu Roy is the son of Dinesh Chandra Roy from Dighidangi village in Harinayaranpur, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila. He is reportedly a student at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University in Dinajpur.
According to reports, screenshots of several offensive comments made by Dipu Roy via Facebook Messenger recently went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage. On Thursday evening, locals staged a protest demanding his arrest and punishment.
OC Sarwar Alam Khan stated that following the complaint, a swift operation was launched, leading to Dipu's capture in neighbouring Panchagarh. He also noted that Dipu has a prior case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Legal action will be taken accordingly.
