A day-long young writers' conference was held at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium of Dhaka University (DU), organised by the DU Young Column Writers’ Forum.
The event was inaugurated on Saturday by Professor Dr Sayma Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of DU. The programme was presided over by Forum President Tahmina Akter, while General Secretary Md Abdur Rahim delivered the welcome speech.
Speaking as the chief guest, Professor Bidisha said, “We achieved a new Bangladesh through the July Uprising. The young generation can fulfil the dream of building a discrimination-free and inclusive society. For that, they must acquire skills in writing and other areas.”
She further emphasized the importance of neutrality in writing and research. “Writers should analyse various opinions through logic and reasoning. Contemporary realities should be reflected rationally in their work,” she added.
Students from various universities across the country took part in the conference. The day-long event featured exhibitions, mime shows, seminars, discussions on career building, article competitions, quizzes, and cultural performances. On the occasion, a magazine titled Sarosij was also unveiled.
