A new milestone has been added to the journey of promoting women’s leadership and awareness-building through a grassroots initiative engaging young women leaders across the country.
Under the “Enhancing Women’s Participation in Leadership and Public Life” project, implemented by Naripokkho with support from UN Women, 90 young women leaders from Dhaka, Rajshahi and Chattogram divisions have conducted school-based sessions on SDG localisation.

As part of the initiative, the young leaders held interactive sessions with students of classes VIII, IX and X at different schools in their respective areas, focusing on SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
During the sessions, important issues such as gender equality, justice, human rights and social inclusion were presented to students in a simple and accessible manner so they could relate the concepts to their everyday lives.

The discussions also created opportunities for students to express their own opinions and ideas, making the sessions more interactive and participatory.
Organisers said the initiative aims not only to raise awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but also to encourage young people to become more responsible, inclusive and conscious citizens.

Under the programme, a total of 60 sessions have already been completed across the three divisions, which organisers described as a significant achievement. The activities are still ongoing, and a total of 180 sessions are planned under the project.

Project organisers believe the involvement of young women leaders in community-level awareness activities is helping strengthen leadership skills while also inspiring school students to engage with issues related to equality, justice and social responsibility.

They added that such initiatives play an important role in building a future generation that is more aware of human rights, gender equality and democratic values.
