Opener Tanzid Hasan’s whirlwind 59 ball-71 was complemented by fast bowler Shoriful Hasan’s five-for as Bangladesh Under-19 team romped to a comprehensive 73-run victory over New Zealand youths in the fifth and final match of the series at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln on Sunday, reports BSS.

Having won the match, Bangladesh finally clinched the series by 4-1. Their only defeat came in the fourth match when they lost the game by four wickets that eventually ruined their hopes to inflict a whitewash on the hosts.

However, electing to bat first, Bangladesh U19 piled up 316-8 after which New Zealand youths were bowled out for 243 in 43.4 overs.

Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon combined for a 120-run for the opening stand to lay a solid platform for the side. Tanzid struck 59 ball-71, hitting 11 fours and two sixes while Emon was as usually serene, making 48 off 55. After their departure in a space of four overs, Bangladesh tasted a mini collapse before Shahadat Hossain came up as rescuer with 48 runs.

No. 10 batsman Avishek Das also struck 48 but that came off just 36 balls and helped the side propel past 300. Paceman Shoriful Islam made the target tougher one for the hosts, making regular inroads. He scalped 5-43 and he was well also supported by Rakibul Hasan who took 2-55.

Fergus Lellman was the top-scorer for the Kiwis with 56 while Jock Mckenzie made 47. Captain Jesse Tashkoff was the other notable contributor with 39. The Bangladesh Under-19 team will head towards country from New Zealand on Monday.
