Bangladesh U-19 advanced to the knock-out stage, beating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by nine wickets (D/L Method) in a rain-hit match of the ongoing U-19 World Cup at Basseterre on Saturday.

Due to the interruption of rain, the 149-run target was changed to 107 in 35 overs. Bangladesh scored 110/1 in 24.5 overs to reach the revised target and seal the victory.

Tiger openers made a great start by putting on an 86-run opening stand. Mahfijul Islam smashed six fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 64 off 69 balls and Iftakher Hossain scored 37 runs.

Then, Prantik Nawrose Nabil gave Mahfijul company through to the end to chase down the target comfortably.

Right-arm seamer Ripon Mondol bagged 3 wickets while Ashiqur Zaman and Tanzim Hasan Sakib took two wickets each to bowl UAE out for 148.

UAE batter Punya Mehra top-scored with 43, but they lost their last six wickets for 46 runs in quick successions with Mondol causing maximum damage.
