Bangladesh on Tuesday confirmed the highest single-day jump of coronavirus cases, recoveries and deaths.
The health department said 53 patients died from Covid19 in the last 24 hours till 8am and record 3,862 new cases were found by testing 17,214 samples which is also the highest in a day so far.

The death toll from the pandemic now rose to 1,262 and the number of total infections surged to 94,481.
Some 2,237 patients were released from the hospitals during the period, increasing the tally to 36,264.

The government has introduced a zonal lockdown system by dividing the areas in red, yellow and green based on the density of cases.

Of the latest deaths, 47 were men and six women. Thirty-four died in different hospitals, 18 at their homes and one was diagnosed with the infection after death.

Of them, 30 were from Dhaka, 14 from Chattogram, four from Rajshahi, three from Khulna and one each from Barishal and Mymensingh, Additional Director General for Health Prof Nasima Sultana said at the daily bulletin.

According to the latest data, 38.38 percent coronavirus infected patients have recovered and 1.34 percent died.
The infection rate based on the samples tested has been 22.44 percent on Tuesday. So far 533,717 samples have been tested in Bangladesh.

The government first identified coronavirus in the country on March 8. The WHO declared the disease pandemic on March 11.

The government has already introduced the zoning system in Gazipur, Narayangani and Narsingdi districts, Purba Rajabazar of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Wari of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on experimental basis, an official handout said.

Once the zoning system works effectively to contain the spread of coronavirus, it will be introduced in other areas of the country, which will help fight the invisible enemy, it added.

The government earlier enforced general holidays from March 26 to May 30 to stem the spread of the virus.
Offices and businesses resumed on May 31 on a limited scale considering the lives and livelihoods of the common people.

The virus first emerged in China’s Wuhan province in December last year.
