In a special operation at the Maricha joint checkpost, the Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) recovered 30,000 pieces of Burmese yaba tablets hidden inside a gas cylinder of a CNG-run autorickshaw. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is around Tk 9 million. One person, the CNG driver, has been arrested.
The detainee, identified as Md Arif (36), is the son of Md Matin from Shalirchar in Shakhira Bazar, Hatiya, Noakhali.
The operation took place at 2:10 PM on Friday when a patrol team from the checkpost intercepted a suspicious autorickshaw on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf highway near Courtbazar. The vehicle was taken to the checkpost for inspection, where the drugs were discovered concealed inside the gas cylinder.
Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Commanding Officer of Ramu Battalion, stated that Border Guard Bangladesh remains vigilant in securing the borders and is committed to preventing smuggling, drug trafficking, illegal migration, and cross-border crimes to protect the country’s youth from the scourge of drugs.
