Three lakh people are being deprived of due health services in the upazila as x-ray machine of the upazila health complex is not being used since it was bought 15 years ago. The x-ray room is under lock and key for last 11 years.

Concerned sources said an analog x-ray machine was bought for the upazila health complex in 2004 spending Tk 6,97,000. After keeping the machine intact in the box for four years, it was set up in a room of the health complex in 2008. Hospital authorities informed that they are not being able to use the machine due to manpower crisis.

Mentionable, the health complex is the only place to get health services for around 3 lakh people of the upazila. As the x-ray machine is not being used thousands of people of the upazila are suffering. Authorities said, “A technician is needed to operate the x-ray machine. We have asked for a technician to the higher authorities. But they did not assure us when it would be done.”

Contacted, Dr Golam Mostofa, Nabiganj health and family planning officer, said the x-ray machine is unused since it was bought. It is hard to say whether the machine is still useable.” “Despite sending several letters for trained manpower to operate the machine to the health directorate, no manpower has been appointed yet,” he added.
