Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has moved to allay fears that the recent civil unrest will impact preparations for the Women’s T20 World Cup, set to be held in the country in October.

Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, chairman of the BCB’s women’s wing, has insisted that the tournament is on track and that the necessary security measures are in place.

“We’ve been in close contact with the authorities to ensure the safety of all teams taking part in the World Cup,” said Nadel. “The situation has calmed down considerably, and we’re confident that the tournament will run smoothly.”

The BCB has previous experience of hosting major ICC events, having successfully staged the Men’s World Cup in 2014 amidst a period of political instability. Nadel believes this experience will stand the board in good stead.

“We’ve learned a lot from hosting the men’s tournament,” he added. “The security protocols we put in place were robust, and we’ll be building on that for the women’s World Cup. We’re working closely with the government to provide the highest level of protection for the teams.”

Nadel said, “In any ICC tournament, be it bilateral or any other tournament, the way the law enforcement forces or the administration or the government of Bangladesh assists in these tournaments, provides various support, it will be conducted smoothly and with proper security.

We are sure about that. As the situation has normalized, I think there is no reason to worry or worry about it.”

The tournament is scheduled to take place between October 3rd and 20th in Dhaka and Sylhet.
