WUB holds CiviCon 2026 on Sustainable Engineering Solutions

The Department of Civil Engineering at World University of Bangladesh (WUB) organized CiviCon 2026, an intra-departmental civil engineering technology festival, at the WUB campus.

Held under the theme “Innovating Sustainable Solutions for the Future,” on July 31, 2026, the event brought together academics, engineering professionals, researchers, faculty members, students, judges, organizers and volunteers.

The festival provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their engineering knowledge, practical skills and innovative ideas through four competitions: Project Showcasing, Poster Presentation, AutoCAD Competition and Mechanics Olympiad.

The formal programme and award ceremony were held at the Founding Treasurer Morsheda Choudhury Auditorium. Professor Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro Vice-Chancellor of World University of Bangladesh, attended as the Chief Guest. Professor Zaki Imam, Registrar of WUB, and Professor Dr. AQM Shafiul Azam, Dean of Academic Affairs and Research, attended as Special Guests. Sagor Kumar Podder, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, chaired the programme.

Addressing the event, Professor Dr. M. Nurul Islam emphasized the importance of academic initiatives that allow students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. Professor Zaki Imam highlighted the role of such activities in developing students’ confidence, communication skills and professional competence. Professor Dr. AQM Shafiul Azam stressed the importance of research, creativity and interdisciplinary collaboration in higher education.

The competitions were evaluated by an external panel comprising Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, former Professor of Environmental Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology; Dr. Md. Tarek Uddin, PEng., Professor of Structural Engineering at Islamic University of Technology; Dr. Md. Hadiuzzaman, Professor of Transportation Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology; Dr. Partha Saha, Senior Research Engineer at the Housing and Building Research Institute; and Suvro Das Bhowmick, Managing Director of Consol Limited.

In the Project Showcasing Competition, Yasir Arafat Santo, Md. Masud Rana and Md. Rashed Ansari Redoy became Champions. Md. Maynul Hasan, Md. Nayeem Al Rifat and Md. Al Amin secured the First Runner-Up position, while Md. Sifur Rahaman, Md. Kazi Abidul and Abu Zafor Md. Obaidullah Siddiki became Second Runners-Up.

In the Poster Presentation Competition, Md. Ashadujjaman Asif, Sourav Dey and Lokib Hosayeni Limon were named Champions. Md. Tahsanul Haque, Fahmida Afrin Noha and Yasir Arafat Santo became First Runners-Up, while S.M. Oliul Hasan, Tumpa Mondol and Prosanta Mondol secured the Second Runner-Up position.

In the AutoCAD Competition, Md. Tanvir Ahmed Ratul became Champion, while Mahmodul Hoque and Md. Mahbub Hasan secured the First Runner-Up and Second Runner-Up positions respectively.

In the Mechanics Olympiad, Gulshana Akter Mim became Champion, followed by Afsana Akter Rimu as First Runner-Up and Rakibul Hasan Maruf as Second Runner-Up.

Awards and certificates were presented to the winners during the closing session. In his closing remarks, Sagor Kumar Podder thanked the advisory and organizing committees, external judges, mentors, faculty members, volunteers and participants.
