‘Wrong treatment’ leads to death in Comilla

A patient died in a private hospital of Comilla due to the allegedly wrong treatment given to him by the doctor. Relatives of the patient claimed that the patient’s body got severely burned after the doctor injected him with a date-expired medicine. 

After the condition of the patient got worse immediately, the hospital authorities forced the patient’s relatives to take him to another hospital, witnesses claimed. 

Correspondent after visiting the hospital found out that A patient named Yunus Bhuiyan (55) got admitted to Taslima Maternity Clinic due to some urinary problems. As the duty doctor referred the patient to the managing director of the hospital Professor AKM Hasan, the referred doctor then advised the relatives that the condition of the patient is worse than it seems and immediate treatment is needed. After getting consent from the patients, the treatment got started and doctors pushed narrow pipes in his body. The patient was then given 6 injections simultaneously. The patient was also given several antibiotic tablets during the process.

After that process, the condition of the patient got worse and he then became unable to speak. His skin got burned from the inside and peeled off automatically, the relatives mentioned.  

Due to the agonizing pain of the patient, doctors gave him sedative and tried to calm down the relatives of the patients. At one point, the managing director and duty doctor left the hospital. On June 3, the condition of the patient got deteriorated after midnight and hospital authorities insisted the patients to leave the hospital with the patient. The also forcefully tried to referred the patient to another hospital. 

During the time, relatives of the patient requested the hospital to treat the patient properly. After hospital authorities became ferocious, brother of the patient, Amir Ali contacted the police and Kandirpar Police Station In-Charge Nurul Islam with a team came to the hospital to assess the situation. 

After the patients was forcefully removed from the hospital, the relatives of the patient managed an ambulance and took him to the burn unit of Dhaka medical College. Doctors in DMC declared the patiend dead at 5.30 pm on July 4th. Son of the patient Imam Hossain and the patient’s brother Amir Ali then informed journalists about the whole situation. 

Upon asking why the patient was denied to be treated properly, Dr AKM Hasan refused to provide any statement at that time. Relatives of the patients said they will file a case against the doctor and the hospital. 

Comilla Civil Surgeon Dr. Mir Mobarak Hossain said that steps will be taken if a patient dies due to wrong treatment. Acting Director of Comilla Medical College Hospital Dr. Reazaul karim said that if he gets order from the Civil Surgeon, he will take necessary action regarding the issue.
