A petition has been lodged with the High Court seeking ban on student politics and ragging at the all the universities of the country and to ensure the safety of the students. The writ filed on Sunday also sought a court order on the compensation for the family of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology student Abrar Fahad.

“It’s unconstitutional to let student politics continue on university campus,” said Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand who filed the writ. He added that there is no legal ground for it to exist and Abrar’s killing proved that student politics should not exist on campus. The education secretary, all public university vice-chancellors, police authorities and others concerned have been made respondent to the rule.
