A writ petition was filed on Sunday in the High Court seeking directives to ensure the protection of all the sculptures including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s sculptures.
Supreme Court (SC) lawyer Uttam Lahiri filed the writ petition at the the High Court.
The writ petition said, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman brought freedom to us. He is the symbol of liberation. His sculptures must not remain unprotected.
Therefore, in the writ petition, instructions have been sought to ensure the safety of all the sculptures of Bangabandhu, the write further said.
In the writ, people concerned, including the secretary for home affairs, were made defendants. It was learnt that the High Court (HC) bench headed by Justice JBM Hassan may hear the writ petition.
Meanwhile, Muktijuddho Moncho, a pro-Liberation War platform, said they would file a sedition case against Mamunul Haque, joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam, and Faizul Karim, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, for opposing the construction of a sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
