World Radiography Day observed in Rangpur

The World Radiography Day- 2022 was observed with the theme of 'Radiographers at the Forefront of Patient Safety' in a befitting manner here on Tuesday.

The day was observed in the country as elsewhere across the world to honour the discovery of X-radiation, also known as X-rays on this day in 1895 by German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen.

The Institute of Health Technology, Rangpur and Rangpur Private Radiology Technologist Association jointly brought out a rally on the city streets followed by a discussion held at the IHTR Auditorium marking the day.

Principal of the Institute of Health Technology, Rangpur Dr. Herambo Kumar Roy led the rally and addressed the discussion as the chief guest.

Teacher of the Institute of Health Technology, Rangpur Dr. Abu Hena Md. Mofasserul Islam and its Lecturer (Radiology) Md. Rezaul Islam addressed as special guests.

Rezaul Islam said celebration of the World Radiography Day as the anniversary of the discovery of Xrays in 1895 is used as a platform to raise public awareness of radiographic imaging and therapy.

"Radiographic imaging plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. It is equally crucial that the radiation level is kept to the minimum so that it improves the health of patients instead of harming them," he said.

The chief guest said the celebration of the World Radiography Day is an opportunity to honor those working with precise accuracy in radiographic imaging within the bodies of humans and animals and therapy and save thousands of lives every year.

Radiology is the medical discipline that uses medical imaging to diagnose and treat diseases within the bodies of animals and humans. "A variety of imaging techniques such as X-ray radiography, ultrasound and computed tomography, nuclear medicine including positron emission tomography, fluoroscopy and magnetic resonance imaging are used to diagnose or treat diseases," he said. He encouraged all medical imaging professionals including radiologists, radiographers, radiological technologists and professionals to recognize and expedite the essential role of radiology in the treatment of a patient.
