World Rabies Day-2024 was observed at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) on Saturday with a day-long programme, along with various events.
A colorful procession was brought out on the university campus on this occasion at 10:00am. Teachers, officials, students, and staff of the university participated in the procession. Following the procession, a discussion was held at the auditorium. Professor Dr AKM Saifuddin, the acting vice-chancellor of CVASU, attended the discussion programme as the chief guest.
Professor Dr Mohammad Lutfur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, presided over the programme. Dr Mohammad Amjad Hossain, Head of Business at ACI Animal Health, attended the meeting as the special guest.
Professor Dr Abdul Ahad from the Department of Microbiology and Veterinary Public Health at CVASU, and Associate Professor Dr Mohiuddin Ahsanul Kabir Chowdhury from Department of Public Health of the Asian University for Women, gave their presentation during the meeting.
Acting Vice-Chancellor of CVASU, Professor Dr AKM Saifuddin, said that keeping the price of rabies vaccines at an affordable level would increase the vaccination rate, thereby reducing the risk of rabies. He expressed his hope that raising public awareness and ensuring the easy availability of vaccines would play an effective role in eradicating rabies.
Among the events organized by CVASU for World Rabies Day, there were administering free rabies vaccinations to 100 pets, awareness meetings on rabies for pet owners, a debate competition, and a poster and art exhibition.
